What does the error message say? What are your system specs?

the messeage is a blue screen that pops up and says "a problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent any damage to your computer"
it goes on and says some more stuff like "if this is the first time you have seen this message restart your computer." and run CHKDSK /F

What about the memory? If you have two sticks of memory, try just one at a time.

How about the PSU? Generally, these types of errors are either faulty memory or bad PSUs.

You may want to try out the memory with DocMemory: http://www.simmtester.com/PAGE/products/doc/docinfo.asp

Is this a new build or just a new video card? Your specs don't indicate that. What brand and watt power supply are you using? Have you tested the memory as Dr G suggested? Is this a full legal XP disk or a copy?

Use the link Doc posted or go to www.memtest.org. Either site will let you download a program for testing the memory using a floppy disk. You boot to the disk and it will test the memory for errors. Any errors is an indication of defective memory. You need to answer the rest of my questions too, including the brand of the psu.

No it's not. That's the form factor. It means it conforms to certain physical and electrical standards. The manufacturer's name should be on there too. What about XP? Copy or legit version?
