Newbie with video card/driver problems on first build

Hi,

I've just built my first PC - here are the specs:

Athlon64 3200+
1Gb DDR400
Abit AV8 3rd Eye
Connect3D Radeon 9500 256Mb AGP8x
etc...

Now, I thought I was doing really well, as I have managed to build it, boot it up and install XPpro without a problem, but those started when I installed an AGP driver. Now the computer either restarts or loses video within a minute or so of booting. This does not happen, however, when I boot into safe mode.

Any ideas - might I have a faulty card, or is it definitely software?

Thanks for any help,

David.

Definitley sounds like a driver problem. Especially since you don't have any problems in safe mode. Use a program like driver cleaner (in safe mode) to ensure that you remove all traces of the AGP driver, then download the current catalyst drivers from www.ati.com. That should clear up your problem.

Some things to check.

When you have a via based board, there is a new agp driver included in sp2. Make sure you load in this order.

1 Install os
2 Install sp2
3 Install latest via 4in1 drivers. The later ones will not overwrite the new MS agp driver.
4 Now install video driver
