System Won't Post

I have an issue with a relatively new system I built. The system is approximately 5 months old and I have had this issue happen twice now. When I power up the system, it won't post and starts making a beeping sound repetivtively.

What happens is this, I apply power, the system beeps for approximately one sec., there is a one or two sec delay then repeats beep and continues doing this pattern and will not post.

If I shut down the machine and reapply power the problem goes away. Like I said, it has only happened twice but I am concerned that it may indicate the beginning of a problem.

anyone know what may be causing this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards.

Chris R

How many beeps? What is the specific pattern?

Beeps

Doctor Gonzo,

The beeps are approximately one second in length (maybe slightly less) and spaced approximately one sec apart and do not stop until I turn off power.

Could be memory or the video card. If you have more than one stick of memory, try removing one or the other.

Reseat the power connector on the video card. Are you using the 6 pin PCI-E connector or are you using 2 molexes with an adapter?

Power Connector

Glc,

I think it is the 6-pin PCI-E connector, it connects to the top of my video card and there is no adapter.

I'll check to confirm but I am pretty sure that is it.

Thumbs up

It happens only when BIOS Power On Self Test fails.
Causes of this may be any hardware might not be connected properly.
Reinstall your IDE Cables, RAM and any other PCI devices, check motherborad jumper settings. Clearing CMOS might be helpful.
If the problem persists, it might be that your RAM or any of the IDE drive is not working properly.
