Won't power up

Just finished putting together the following:
Asus K8N-E Motherboard
AMD Athlon64 3000+ Processor
Kingston #KVR400X64C3A/1G Memory Stick
Western Digital 250gb Caviar Hard Drive
nVidia TNT2 Video Card
Antec 350 Watt Power Supply

The last two items are old, the rest is brand new. When I turn the power on, the cpu fan turns momentarily then quits. My back panel I/O escutcheon wouldn't fit so I left it out. Can this possibly cause some kind of mobo grounding problem? Please don't laugh too hard. I'm grasping at straws here.

Very well could be, try this. You do need the I/O panel in there, use the one that came with the mobo, not the generic one from the case.

Thank you, Blue. My problem with the mobo I/O panel is that it's new and the case is old. When I install it, the mobo sits too high up from the stanchions and when I tighten the screws, the mobo bends.

In any case, it was actually a different problem. I forgot to connect the 12V connector (4-pin) from the power supply to the mobo. This is my first Athlon64 build and I didn't know this was necessary for AMD Athlons.

Thanks again for your input and I'll certainly be looking for a properly fitting I/O panel.
