Problem Setting up computer

I am currently working on building my first computer. My specs are as follows:

ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe socket 939 Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3000 CPU
Seagate 300GB SATA 7200RPM 8MB Buffer
Samsung 19" LCD Monitor
600W power source
1.5 GB Ultra PC3200 DDR Memory
XFX Geforce 6600 LE 256MB SLI Graphics Cards (x2)

At first I would turn on the computer, the motherboard power light would come on, the fans would engage, but no picture would come up. After extenden testing, I bumped it down to one graphics card. But still nothing. So I decided to put the other (identical) card in, and randomly I get a picture. It is giving me an ASUS A8N-SLI Delux motherboard screen, and in the bottom left corner it says press delete to enter setup. I do so and nothing happens. I need to enter setup so that I can tell it to boot from my CD rom drive so that I can install windows for the first time. I have tried several different keyboards, including a wireless modal, although all of them have been ps2 and not USB. Interestingly, on one of the keyboards the num or caps lock lights would not come on when pressed. Any ideas on how to fix the problem. Could it be that I need to have a CD with the mobo drivers on it in the CD rom drive first? I have been struggling with the issue for several weeks now and would like to find a resolution so that I can start using my computer. Please ask me if you need any more info. Thanks. Thank you.

We had a member here have a similar problem with a new build a while back and it turned out his mobo was shorting to the case in the area that controls the keyboard. Did you assemble this build OUTSIDE of the case first as a test? If not, follow the guide in this thread. You must remove everything from the case in order to test your components.

Is that power supply SLI-certified and are all power connectors plugged into the motherboard?

What kind of power is it? Make sure your Vcard 4 pin 12v power cable is hooked up if it has one.

All of the power connectors are plugged into the motherboard. HOw do I find out if the power supply is SLI certified. I do have the 4-pin power cable plugged into the video card.

I will try removing the motherboard and retesting it. What do I do if this is the problem?

I have removed the motherboard and then computer seems to be working okay. How do I mount it in the case so that I don't have this problem.

The case should have had the standoffs with the case or already on the mother board mounting tray. Check the mother board manual as to which holes in the mother board are to be used for mounting and which are not. Also, check the I/O sheild around the connectors.

Did you install the brass standoffs in the case? You need one for each mounting hole that is in your mobo. Remove any others that may have come preinstalled and don't line up with any holes. Tighted the standoffs securely to the case. Make sure the tabs on the I/O shield sit on top of the I/O area. Bend them up a little if need be. Insert one screw per mounting hole in the motherboard and tighten until snug. DON'T over tighten these screws. Test the assembly with the core components installed in the case just like you did outside the case. If everything works, then you begin adding the other items. Good luck.
