First Build

Just joined the forum..have been a silent lurker for a little while ...lol
Just want to say Thank you for all your recommendations and the time and effort to help others!! It is appreciated!

Ok, so heres what we're looking at so far:


OS-Microsoft-Windows-Pro

Case -ThermalTake Armor

Motherboard-Asus A8n32-SLI Deluxe

Power Supply-Antec True Power 550 watt

CPU- AMD/Athlon 64X2 4200 Socket 939

Ram-Corsair Value Ram 2 GB

Hard Drives- Western Digital-2)250 G's 7200 Sata2 16 mb cache and 1) 36 G' 10K

EVGA XFX GF6800XT Video Cards X 2

DVD Burner- Samsung 16X with 5X DVD-Ram Write and LightScribe

Floppy - NEC 1.44 MB

Whatcha think? any suggestions? Thanks!

Looks like a pretty good build to me. However, you need a soundcard I do believe. I'm not sure if that mobo has onboard audio.

Yes it does have onboard sound...we're still trying to decide what soundcard we want to go with..My husband is wanting to start recording music..so were looking hard into that venue..

Hi, welcome to PC Mech

One thing that I suggest that instead of going with 2 6800GT's, it would be cheaper and way more efficient to get one 7800GT or 7900GT. One of these cards will blow away a pair of 6800's.

Would stay away from Samsung optical drives. I've found them to be noisy and unreliable. Lite-on and NEC are the brands i'd go for.

You can save money by gettting XP Home, unless you need the advanced networking features of Pro.

Would second the recommendation to get a single, more powerful graphics card now.
