May actually make a purchase…

OK – I think I may actually be ready to make a purchase. Below is my list. If you had the money – would you stick with the AMD 3200+ Venice or buy the AMD 3700+ San Diego (apx. $50 more)? We are not “currently” gamers – but I want a system we will not quickly outgrow.

Games are video card orientated in terms of power needs. So, if on a budget, 3200+ should do games well with a decent video card.

Personally, I would make the jump to the 3700+ processor...it's in the 'sweet spot' right now in terms of price vs performance. As well as the increase in clock speed over the 3200+, its got double the L2 Cache, which will show a performance increase.

You've chosen some good parts there, it looks a well balanced build.

Do you like the card I picked out? (eVGA 256-P2-N389-AX Geforce 6800GS CO SE 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card)

Why would one buy a faster processor?

LOL! I have been second-guessing myself on everything! I’ve been researching this since January. Pretty pathetic – huh? :-)

But I’m close! I’m very, very close... And then the fun of putting it all together begins...

I would stick with the 3200+, especially if you aren't gamers and don't plan on doing heavy gaming. The 6800GS is a pretty good gaming card and should support gaming well if you do play newer games. Do you know what kind of games you might play? If you don't really plan on gaming or just play light, older games, a 6600GT would be plentiful.

Seagate 7200.8's have been having reliability problems - get a 7200.7 or 7200.9.
