PS/2 Keyboard not recognized

I had gotten through installing XP on a new build, rebooted and now the keyboard connected to the PS/2 is no longer recognized. I can noteven use it to check out BIOS. Have tried other keyboards in PS/2 with same results.
What to do???????

If you've tried other keyboards on that motherboard and they don't work, and the keyboards work fine on other computers, then it is probably the motherboard.

What brand and model is the mobo?

Just for precaution - make sure that the keyboard is plugged into the correct location...

checked MSI forum site and found numerous issues with PS/2 recognition. Everything seems to point at using USB port, but then the problem is trying to modify BIOS which is set to PS/2 keyboard. Any suggestions?

Have you tried using a USB keyboard yet? Most modern motherboards will recognize a USB keyboard and mouse during bootup without any input from you.

Yes that indeed works, but here is a related issue: I can not get into BIOS because it thinks I have a PS/2 keyboard, which is not recognized by the system. Any suggestions appreciated.

This seems to be a recognized MSI motherboard problem. Many posts on this in their sponsored forum. Got a solution from their:
Quote:
Shut system down and remove AC .
Disconnect all HDD's and Optical drives (signal cables and power connectors on the mobo end)
this will giving the mobo more power/current to work with incase the PSU is to weak.
And take out ram module #2 , leaving just one in dimm slot #1.
Then use the reset swtch to clear cmos .
Before connecting AC , plug in a ps2 keyboard only (no mouse) .
Now see if system posts , and if "DEL" is recognized and takes you into cmos setup .
If it does , use the "Load optimized defaults " to set all values straight followed by F10 to save and exit.
