2k comp need help
i have about 2k for a comp. i have chosen a couple of things already but i'm not sure what the other stuff i should get.
Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811133153 GFX Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102624 HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144701 I would like to get 2 CD/DVD burners and 2Gb RAM. I would like to get a CPU that can handle HL2:LC and F.E.A.R. w/o any problems. if i could get some suggestions that would be great. |

Your selections so far look good. You can go with an X1900XT for the same price, if not less. A bit more power for the dollar.
You'll need a good power supply, the Antec TruePower 550 is popular. As for RAM, Corsair Value Select is a great choice. For burners, look at LiteOn or NEC. As for motherboards and CPUs, do you a preference for AMD or Intel? Both are good, just want to have a direction.

Here is the X1900XT. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102003 Newegg has some other brands too.
For AMD, I like the Asus A8N5X motherboard. Chipwise, the Dual-Cores are the way to go. If you can swing it, the 4400+ is a bit pricy but a great buy. Otherwise, any of the dual cores are great choices. Last edited by Alaron; 03-28-2006 at 07:25 PM. |

Water Colling is still kind of a hobby along the lines of overclocking. Intresting, but a bit more work then it's worth. That case should have good cooling on it's own. Unless you plan to overclock, the stock heatsink and fan a retail CPU comes with should work fine.

Nice choice of hard drive.
You can get whatever you want, but the case seems awfully expensive. You might be better off getting one (TT Armor series) that's almost half the price and putting the money towards and upgrade or just save it. It's up to you though.

Also what Dual Core CPU for AMD do you suggest. I'm looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16819103586R or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103562 but not sure which one i should go with. I'm leery of a Refurbished CPU. I would choose the X2 3800+.

You can get whatever case you want, but here is the Armor case:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811133154 It looks almost the same except the front panel is a bit different (doors don't completely cover the front on the Armor). Get what you like though, you are the one that has to look at it.

the 3800 X2 is a low end dual core, for your budget consider the 4400, it hs 2x the amount of cache and a very good multitaker.
