Cannot boot into dos

Not to long ago I built my own computer (with help from the guides here) I had to because my old one was out of date and the motherboard died. So I used alot of the old parts(HD, CD-RW,Floppy,case,power) and just ordered a new CPU MotherBoard and Ram from NewEgg. Construction went off without a hitch, everything ran perfectly and my old XP installation adjusted itself perfectly.

However about a month after I constructed the computer I wanted to go into dos. (no particular reason) and relized my bootdisk wouldnt work. The only drive that would be availible would be the floppydrive. Although using Fdisk I could still view my harddrive and its partition. I have also tried to make a boot disk from the computer itself which boots the comp into a bluescreen.

I want to finish off my computers upgrades but this makes me nervous. When I tried to add a CDrom drive (I was testing it before selling to a friend.) XP's System file failed and forced me to install XP again (the installation I'm using now) But if something like that were to happen when I am doing the rest of the upgrades to my computer I would pretty much be screwed.

Any idea's to succesfully boot into dos.
MotherBoard- http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813185057
CPU- http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16819103424

For upgrades I am adding ram a Graphics card, DVD-R, Hardrive, TVtuner. I would be replacing the old Harddrive and CD-RW.

Windows XP doesn't have DOS, so you can't boot directly from Windows into DOS as you could with earlier versions like Windows 98. When you run DOS programs from within Windows, DOS is emulated, not real.

You can get a real DOS bootdisk from www.bootdisk.com, but DOS can't read NTFS-formatted drives, so if your C: drive is NTFS (and it probably is), then you won't be able to access it from DOS.

My original boot disk was from that site. I had used to same disk to reinstall XP after I had formatted the harddrive.

Could I use the CD to boot from the XP disk? I have the option to boot from anydrive I want.

You don't need a bootdisk to reinstall XP. Just use the XP installation CD.
