greedo Where to find a cheap 16-48x dvd writer?

Hey guys I'm looking to buy a external dvd writer and obviously I'm not worried about writing speed, I'm going for cheap. I've looked at newegg and tigerdirect and ebay, but I would like to get your take on what the cheapest place to look is.

The way to get the cheapest externals isn't a place, it's little mini project. You can find external enclosures that have either USB 2.0 or Firewire ports on the outside, and IDE or SATA on the inside. You buy one of those, and then slip any standard internal drive you happen to like or is on sale, into it.

You can find these little gems at Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/Su...SubCategory=92

They go for around $20 to $40.

Also.... If I were to buy this...http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817145329, would I have to buy the slimmer internal dvd writer... If so I'll get this instead because I'd rather not spend more money on the slimmer drive...http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817145314 ,what's your opinion

You're right. The first link is for 2.5" hard drives only. For an optical drive, you'll need the enclosure in the second link.
