Me and my MSI K8MM-V
So I purchased my AMD Sempron 2500+ (latest one) and a MSI K8MM-V, which the price is around $90, and it's so cheap.
I ripped out the old KM4M motherboard from my old casing and put the MSI K8MM-V into it. Of course, I read the manual book - even follow every detail about it. It said: CLR CMOS: (I don't know how to draw the jumpers...) || || . KEEP DATA: . || || According to the book the CLR CMOS jumper is in CLR position when I got the board in my hand, so I moved it back to the opposite, which is KEEP DATA position. Finished. Hmm... so I powered it up - no power, no response and no nothing. After three hours of cracking and banging my head I thought the board is faulty. Or the PSU. So again, I know maybe the board is kaput, aaack, so I just flipped the CLR CMOS jumper in an opposite direction - and the comp started flawlessly!! The manual book has an error. The jumper should be that way: CLR CMOS: . || || KEEP DATA: || || . Anyone has experience in building systems with MSI K8MM-V? p.s: I even got it to do internet and play some games in the comp. It's so wonderful! Last edited by The_YongGrand; 04-07-2006 at 09:22 PM. |

The manuals don't always have the correct information.

What about the orientation? Maybe you had it flipped around? Or the manual writers did that...

Oh I followed the orientation directly on the manual book. I didn't turn the manual book upside down or sideways.
I checked the other manuals (MSI PM8M2-V) and the other newer MSI manual books and compared with my K8MM-V and found out that the the CMOS jumpers in the K8MM-V manual book are in the wrong orientation. Fortunately I flipped the jumper around (if this is not KEEP data, then it's a CLR, let's flip it back to KEEP and see what happens) and the computer started like magic. There's a Cool and Quiet function in the BIOS - I can choose "Auto" or "Disable" - but when I choose "Auto", and attempt to install AMD's Cool n' Quiet driver - it says something like "This version of AMD's Cool'n'Quiet Technology does not install in this version of windows".... I have the latest WinXP and a Sempron 2500+ processor btw.
