Define 'little bit of gaming' - is this going to be like solitaire, or games like FEAR? If the latter, then you wont get a 400$ PC which can play demanding games like that.
I would suggest an entry level Dell, customized to your needs also - they are a great value and you most likely can't build a similar machine for the same cost.

Ya a budget under $600, you really can't build better then you can buy at Dell. With the bulk buying power they have, the price just isn't there.

If you do go the Dell route, make sure you get at least 512megs of ram. Generally the entry levels Dells came with 256megs.

That's really hard to anwser without knowing the specs of the rest of the computer. What CPU is in it? What socket type is the CPU? Is the video card AGP or PCI-E? WIthout that we could give you brand names, but they wouldn't mean much.

Think ASUS. They are premium quality boards, but that also have entry levels. Gigabyte and Intel are also recommended. Other manufacturers are also good, but around this forum, don't mention MSI, as general opinion around here ain't so positive about that brand. (At least, I believe that's the one).

MSI isn't that bad. They're so-so, but they have some good budget boards. Biostar, ECS, Foxconn, PCChips, & Jetway have been my basic avoid list for awhile. But let's try not to get into a debate that the orginal poster doesn't have much of a view on one way or the other just yet.
