File\WinXP\ULSata.sys caused an unexpected error (512) at line 2113 in d:\xpsprtm\bas
Hi
I have got my second new board - I sold my old one on ebay as faulty after having it diagnosed as dead, only to find the person who bought it says it worked fine for him!!! I am still encountering a few problems. Basicly when I press f6 instaling XP I get this message once the drivers start to load: File\WinXP\ULSata.sys caused an unexpected error (512) at line 2113 in d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c I have tried various floppys etc. It's not the floppy drive or disks..I have tried various of each. I have the following setup: PCH-DL mobo 2 x 2ghz xeons - (they seem to be detected fine) 2 x 512mb Ram - (seems to be detected fine) 40 GB samsung sata drive - (If set to raid in BIOS on start up it reads JBO SATA DEVIECS FOUND - SAMSUNG 37GB ETC INSALLED SUCCESFULY) antec 550w 12v true power supply - Seems fine Everything fires up fine (it's the same as the old board which you now have) and just fails at this f6 point. I then try and continue without instaling the drivers but it then says XP can't find any hard-drive. However, when I switch the machine on it clearly shows the SATA drive not in the bios but on the screen as JBO SATA DEVIECS FOUND - SAMSUNG 37GB ETC INSALLED SUCCESFULY. I am confused beyond belief. I have tried every option I can think of. I have read about this online and seem to never find a solid reoslution. I have used the 378ATA make disk from ASUS CD and also downloaded from ASUS website but no luck at all. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks |

I'm sticking my neck out here cuz I'm not an expert on server type configurations at all. Took a look thru your mobo manual and it appears you have SATA support from both the Southbridge and a Promise controller. That makes me think it has native (built in) SATA support and you don't need to install the drivers using the F6 prompt. You should be able to connect to either the SATA1 or SATA2 connectors and the drive should be seen in the bios and load just like a PATA ide drive. The other two SATA connectors are labeled RAID and I suspect are used with the Promise controller. Since you're only using the one hdd, no RAID is necessary.
My other concern is more from lack of knowledge with server type boards but I seem to recall that a server/dual Xeon board requires a different power supply than ATX standard. Gotta do some more reading to validate that idea tho. HTH. |

hey thanks for the reply man... you rock... dunno if it will work but I will give it a go. What confuses me is all the different bios settings... so:
I connect my sata drive to sata 1. Enter bios, what should I set it to. Nearly everywhere I have read says it should go on enhanced RAID mode. But I'm not setting up a raid. Just setting up a single sata drive. Anyway..I will give it a go. Thanks. |
