Need Help!! Can't get BIOS from Mobo Manufacturer

I have a Jetway Intel Socket 775 MoBo w/nForce4 chipset and Jetway's web site just plain sux!! After much struggling through the navigation I finally find the BIOS upgrade and the link is Broken!! In fact many links on that are broken.

Last night I experienced a BSOD and after rebooting and submitting the error report to Microsoft, they came back with: Solution not found: consider BIOS Upgrade. I was able to pinpoint the driver that caused the crash and remove it but now I would really like to upgrade my BIOS because I think that since my MOBO is older than my CPU I am going to experience problems later. The main reason I think this is because the Mobo was built for 90ns processors mine is of the 65ns variety. Does anyone else believe this will cause future problems? Will a BIOS flash even fix this?

Anyway, I can't get the BIOS flash from the manufacturer. Is there any other way to obtain this?

Thanks.

Can usually get it directly from the BIOS maker like Phoenix etc...

What's the exact mobo part number? And what bios are you currently using? If this is your board, the specs don't say it will support a Dual Core processor. Only HT is listed. Same info at Newegg.

Unless a new bios specifically says it will allow the proper recognition of the Dual Core cpu, I think you have a mismatch. Check in Device Manager and see if it shows one or two cpu's under Processor.

Yes that is my board. Device Manager says I have two under processor plus under Computer it says ACPI Multiprocessor PC. AND I'm up and running with the system. Shouldn't I have seen other problems if it was a 'mismatch'? CPU-Z also shows both cores running @3.0 Ghz and 800Mhz FSB. Doesn't this indicate support/recognition of both cores? Please advise - now you got me scared.

Sounds like you can relax. If both cores are being recognized, you should be fine. Does it say Pentium D in the Processor area of Device Manager? Just curious cuz my 950 does.

Yes, it says: Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 3.00Ghz (says it two times)...so I'm good as far as support for the chip? Is a BIOS flash a good idea at this point? I only had the one system crash from a WCPUID driver (it told me the driver name on the BSOD so I was able to boot back up and delete it.) Should I wait and see what happens? Just got the system up and running yesterday...The only possible performance issues I've seen is some mouse studdering while processing but with a dual core I don't think I should be seeing that should I?

Sorry for the flood of questions - just want to make sure I'm stabilizing the system properly.

Thanks.

Bios updates are issued like software updates. Each one is designed to "fix" a recognized problem. If you don't have the problem the upgrade fixes, you're wasting your time and risking a corrupted bios. Jetway's site doesn't make it easy to find the bios update, let alone tell what it will fix. Next time the BSOD appears, copy the error message and post it here. Perhaps we can do some troubleshooting with you to find the issue.

OK, I'll be on the lookout. Any idea why I would be experiencing the mouse studdering? It doesn't appear to be related to the actual peripheral. The mouse pointer actually flashes in and out of existence rather than just not move when I want it to. I particularly see this upon initial loading of OS.

Thanks again for all your help.

What type of mouse? PS/2, usb, wireless? Model? What type of surface are you using it on? Glass or highly polished desktops will cause problems with optical mice.

its a PS/2 wireless made by micro innovations (I think? says so on the mouse). but I'm pretty sure it's not the mouse - been using this mouse for years on another system and the only problem I ever had was battery consumption. this thing eats AAAs like nobodies business. Just changed the batteries recently. Plus, whenever the mouse would start to die on the old system it would just lag - not studder and fade. This leads me to believe it's my system.

Are you using the default drivers or did it come with it's own install disk? Maybe download the latest drivers from the manufacturer's site.

I honestly don't know...it's been installed on my system forever. I'm using a transplanted HDD on the new system...probably a source of some of my problems...waiting for my new HDD (Barracuda SATA 3.0 GB/s) to arrive so I can do a clean install of windows. I'll try looking for new drivers...as long as you don't think that it's a hardware issue.

Thanks, you've been great.

I'm willing to bet all your problems will go away with a clean install.
