Question First Build Power Supply

Ready to go on a first build with the following specs

EPoX EP-9NPA+Ultra motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ chip
2GB PC3200 DDR SDRAM
eVGA GeForce 7800GT
Western Digital 800EB Hard Drive ganked off an Emachines.

I'm not sure about my other drives yet, I might also try to take them from the emachines POS junkbox that's sitting in the scrap bin. My main question surrounds the power supply. I have read that I shouldn't skimp on this, but can I squeeze out a first run with a Bestec ATX-250 taken from that Emachines I have lying around? I will certainly be stepping up shortly, but there's a certain alure to having a go at this with as many canibalized parts as possible.

Any thoughts on the specs in general? They're taken from an arstechnica article so you may have seen them before. I've seen a system running on these and liked it, so I am going with what I know.

you got some good part's but if i were u i won't sacrifice anything with a 250watt PSU. it is best just to upgrade to 450 watt or higher PSU with either Antec brand or Thermaltake. that's my opinion.

Believe what you read.....don't skimp on the power supply. I'm not sure a 250W supply would even power up that setup, let alone keep it running stable. Doesn't matter though because it won't work. For one, it likely still has the old 20-pin main power plug, whereas that motherboard has the newer 24-pin style. Second, the eVGA website says the 7800GT needs at least a 450W supply. Either way you look at it, with that parts list, the 250W supply isn't gonna cut it. Look for at least a 450W supply by someone like Antec, Enermax, Xclio, or PC Power & Cooling.
