Just built and won't work
Hey all I've been working with computers since the TI and used to build them for a living. It's been awhile but I've been keeping up and reading on the most recent technologies. So recently I decided to go ahead and order the parts and make myself a new one as my old computer is getting really old. I put together everything by the book and double and triple checked everything and its not working. I have taken all measures to protect myself from static electricity and handled the items with the utmost care.
When I plug the power supply in and flip the switch the green power light on the motherboard comes on but the fan on power supply does not and neither does anything else. I decided to try and unplug everything from the power supply and turn it on to see if it worked then but it still did not. However i'm not sure if there is a circuit to prevent powering up unless its connected to something so I thought I'd write this forum and see what you guys think. I think I got a craped out power supply or something I don't have any other idea but then why would the green light show up on board?? Also, there are three power connections on the mb, a 24pin which i have connected, a 2x4pin that i'm using the 4pin side and something called ez plug, not sure if i need the last one plugged in as well or not but i've tried it with and without. Here are the pertinent details I believe: Raidmax case and 450watt raidmax psu Asus P5WD2 motherboard Socket LGA 775 Intel P4 3.4ghz cpu Corsair 512mbx2 ddr2 ATI x1300pro 256mb pcie |

After you turned on the power supply (with the rocker switch on the back?) did you hit the power button on the front of the case or did you use a screwdriver to jump the PWR ON pins on the front panel header?
I'd replace that RaidMax power supply just on principle...it's rubbish. Cricket
