beep POST error on new build.. stumped

Hello this is my first post...
i am putting together a new system here are the specs:
AMD 64 athlon 3200+
ocz 2x512mb DDR 400 CAS2.5
asus a8n5x motherboard
xfx geforce 6800xt 256mb
enermax 400watt liberty PSU

Here is the problem:
when i try to boot, i get one long two short beeps indicating a video failure for my award bios.
the screen is black.

i took the video card to the comp store i bought it at, they threw it into another comp and it loaded up into the bios just fine.

the psu seems to be working, the fans all run

i tried taking it out and putting the video card back in numerous times, making sure its seated and the PSU conneceted (even trying a 4 pinner straight to the psu from the card)

I have a suspect there is a problem between the pci-e slot and the card which is motherboard related, and am considering taking everything out and replacing it.
I thought i'd post on here first just in case there is any other alternative measures.

Thanks in advance,
Robert

Have you tried the out-of-case diagnosing outlined in this thread?

Also, check to see if your mobo requires a 2x2 square connector by the cpu. This provides dedicated 12 volts to the cpu. You don't normally get a beep code when this is disconnected but who knows. It's worth mentioning.
