monitor doesn't respond
Sorry, I'm pretty new to this. But I tried to put a computer together and it powers on, all fans running, lights on, but it seems that i get no response from the monitor, my speakers don't beep (i've already tried to switch the polarity of the plug and such) however something interesting is with the video card: I have a place to plug my monitor directly to the mother board, when i do this i get a black screen with the monitor light yellow; when i plug my monitor to the videocard it tells me that there is no signal. also, i've already tried this too:
1) Remove EVERYTHING from the case 2) Set the motherboard on a non conductive surface. The motherboard box is perfect for this. .DO NOT PLACE THE MOTHERBOARD ON THE STATIC BAG! It can acually conduct electricity! We are going to try and assemble a running system outside of the case. 3) Install the CPU and heat sink. 4) Install the RAM (only install 1 stick for SDRAM, 2 for RDRAM) 5) Install the video card 6) Connect the monitor to the video card. 7) Connect the power supply to the motherboard. 8) Connect power to the power supply 9) Do NOT connect ANYTHING else. Make sure you have the power connector on the CPU fan connected. 10) Use a small screwdriver to momentarily short the power switch connector on the motherboard. and same as usual. my specs are: XFX GeForce 7600 GS Extreme 256 MB PCI-Express 500 Watt PSU ASUS MoBo P5GV-MX Pentium D (dual) Processor 820+ 2.8 Ghz LGA775 Ultra (2x1024)GB DDR Ram 400mhz PC3200 any help is greatly appreciated! |

I would be wondering about the monitor.
Does it work with another computer?

What brand power supply are you using?
Do you have all necessary power connections to the motherboard plugged in? Cricket

Don't these cards require their own power feed from the PSU?

This one has a lower power requirement, 300 watts instead of 350 and no secondary connection, and is an improved version of the 6600GT. |

Ultra is on the list of good power supplies.
That doesn't mean it can't be the problem but we can put it on hold for awhile. Before you e-mail Asus tech support have connected the seperate 4 pin 12 volt rail to the board in addition to the regular power connector? |

The Asus P5GV-MX uses a Intel i915GV chipset - those do not support dual core processors like in a Pentium-D. The P5GV-MX will only support Pentium 4 processors up to the 5xx generation. So to answer your question, it is an incompatible motherboard-processor.

kram got it.
You can use either a Prescott or a Celeron with that board. I'm guessing you looked at socket type when you were hunting a board. Newegg's recommended board for that processor is this one : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131534 |

thank you so much for your help, i guess i shouldn't have taken the computer guy's word for it (at the store) that the processor worked with the Mobo.
