Have built my own computer with help from this site, really only wanted to teach myself by doing,it's the best way.Almost finished but need a little help I couldn't find here(yet). When she powers up the monitor posts P/N 133-DH-84213P02334 RV100 166/166 Bios Pal. Any ideas? Thanks for all the help and thanks in advance for this one.

Welcome to PCMech. Go ahead and list all your hardware specs. More info will make it easier for someone to give an idea or two.

that looks like the bios is starting to postbut does not finish,
so that means that something in the hardware department is not connected correctly. double check that the mouse and keyboard are in the correct sockets. that is a very common mistake, done it a time or two myself. you have a display so that means that the video card is working, and it means that the cpu is working too, that leaves the ram. do you get any kind of beep when you first turn it on ? |

Finally got this to post right to No keyboard error. After plugging in keyboard and trying again I'm back to square one,no beeps, just power, cpu fan running, red board light on but nothing else. I missed a letter in the board type last time,it is P4VXMS.

Sounds like you either have a bad keyboard or your mobo may be shorting in the keyboard area-PS/2 connectors. Try another keyboard, and make sure it's PS/2 NOT usb. If that doesn't do it, pull everything out of the case and follow the guide here:

Well I took this all apart and put it back together again, don't know what I did different but it posts everytime, however only to "Primary master hard disk failed",does this mean there is a problem with the hard drive itself or is it settings??. I'm almost there!
I will be using xp Last edited by z00004; 04-16-2006 at 12:14 PM. |

That message just means you don't have an OS installed on the hard drive yet. What OS are you using?

I will use xp.
Did try to install xp went through all and ended up saying I have no hard drive installed, went through it three times and still the same. Two questions how much noise does a hard drive usually generate and why does there have to be more than two jumper settings. Time to install WinXP. Go into the BIOS and set the first boot device to the CD-ROM drive (best to only have one optical and one hard drive hooked up until after you get the OS installed). Put the WinXP CD in the optical drive and then Save and Exit the BIOS. The computer will reboot to the WinXP CD, just follow the on-screen instructions.

Cricket, that message does indicate there's a problem with the hard drive, a hard drive without any system installed would upon boot generate something more like a "Invalid / Non System Disk error". I don't think XP will install. z00004, check the ide cables/jumper settings.

z00004, was your new hard drive, by any chance, connected to your motherboard by a SATA cable (thin cable, black endings), or an IDE Cable (wide, greyish cable)?
Installing XP onto a SATA Hard drive requires a different approach. |
