wont boot from fdd or optical drive

i hooked everything up, powered on the system, switched the boot priority to have the dvd-rom first, rebooted with the windows xp disk in, but then it just goes back to the BIOS configuration when it reboots. i also tried booting from the floppy drive in dos mode, but the same thing happens. right after the POST finishes if i press f8 it says it's loading the boot menu, but then just takes me to the RAID configuration.

both drives are detected by the motherboard. however, on the dvd drive i only have the power supply and the ide cable hooked up, and not the audio or digital cable. alos, the dvd drive is set as master.

any suggestions to get the os installed?

When you change settings in the BIOS, are the settings saved as needed? In other words, is the BIOS remembering the previous changes you've made to it? I'm presuming that we are talking about a legitemate genuine copy of Windows XP.
