Windows setup does not recognize my SATA drive.
I just built a new computer and I've been trying to install Windows. I'm using this hard drive and this motherboard. The BIOS recognizes the drive, but when I try to install Windows it says it can't recognize the disk. My windows disk is XP Pro slipstreamed with SP 2, so I shouldn't think I need to install drivers or anything. The boot order is correct and as far as I can tell I have the drive plugged in correctly. (SATA I and the power supply)
Any ideas? Last edited by Eagon; 04-14-2006 at 02:04 PM. |

It's possible that motherboard doesn't have native support for the SATA controller and you'll have to load the drivers during the Windows installation (watch for the screen that says to press F6 to loads 3rd party drivers).
Look on the motherboard CD for the SATA drivers and put them on a floppy disk. Cricket

Yeah, looks like I'll have to do that, though I was under the impression that SP2 disks had drivers already. Is there a less obnoxious way to do it than by a floppy?
