Red face Putting a new Mobo in a new Pc

Hello,

I am working on a pc were when the computer turns on it boots for 2 seconds then turn off. I went through a serries of steps from reading other post. So the last step I tried was to take the mobo outside the case and test it. I did that and now it post and evrything. Put it in side the case and hook of the power switch it is doing again. So there is somthing with the case that I can not seem to figure it out. Do anyone have any insite. This is an old emachine case that I am putting the new mobo inside.

Thanks in advance

Cora

Okay, I put the mobo back in the case and I short the power switch with the screwdriver like I did when it was outside of the case. And it posted fine. I plug the power switch connector back in and it started to short again...
Take it off and it works fine. Do anyone have a clue why it is happening

It sounds like the little momentary switch in the power button is broken. If that case has a reset button, swap that connector with the power button and try to power up. If the computer powers up and doesn't shut down, the power button switch is broken.

Could it be that the motherboard is grounded to the case? (Didn't use standoffs?)

I am not sure what you are talking about. I did not install in spacers in the case i just used the bubble mounted circles that is at hte bottom of the case. The motherboard works fine in the case it just not work once I hook up the connector for the power switch.

You can replace the little momentary switch that's under the power button. Remove the switch and take it with you to an electronic's shop to get a replacement.
