Well, I've got all the kit apart from the hard drive which will probably arrive today.
I've done a bench set up for the mobo ala Hal, the CPU, memory, video card and psu plugged in, as well as a screen mouse and key board attached. I've powered up (switch plugged in to the mobo) the fan on the cpu and video card are working and a green light is showing on the mobo but nothing, zilch, on the screen. The kit is:- Asus A8N-SLI premium Athlon 64 3700+ Gainward Bliss GeForce 6800 GS Corsair 2GB twin DDR Antec case and 550w psu. Is the mobo or athlon buggered? Help very greqatly appreciated John |

Onmygod - I've just looked at Hal9000 thread again and it could be that I had the mobo on the static bag, before I switched on but the power supply was connected. Hove do I chech if I've blown the board?

Is the square 4 pin power connector near the cpu plugged in?

No, the white 4 pin is not connected. Thougth the cpu took it from the main power supply (24 pin)

No, you need to get the 4 pin square plugged in and try it again.
Also, please be sure your heatsink fan is plugged in.

I used one of the other 4 pin attached to the lead I used for the case fan. My hopes were high, the green light on the board came on again, the 3 lights on the keyboard flashed, the case and cpu fans came on but zilch on the screen.

That video card probably needs the external power connection to the PSU.

Pull the motherboard from the case and work on it like that until you can get an image on the monitor.
Make sure you read the motherboard manual thoroughly, especially the part about setting up for first boot. Make sure you plug in all necessary power connectors on the motherboard...that one has the 24 pin, the normal 4 pin molex and a square 4 pin. Check with the manual to see which connectors must be connected. Cricket

Hi All
1. Kstate - there is a white 4 pin plug (2x2) called ATX12v but no connector from the psu and nothing supplied with the mobo. There are 2 leads with 6 pin (2x3), one of which I've used for the video card, and an 8 pin (2x4) All the others are either large 4 pint (4x1) and sata drive power fan etc. Nothing with the cpu either. Heat sink fan plugged in and working. 2. Flanzig - the video card is plugged in, see above. 3. Cricket - the mobo hasn't been in the case yet: I've read the book 10 times and can only think it is the square 4 pin as the straight 4 pin and 24 pin are in. I'll contact ebuyer I guess to get a suare 4 pin. |

That Antec PSU *has* to have a 2x2 connector - I haven't seen one that doesn't in a long time. Especially since its rated at 550w... maybe there is a mixup? The 2x2 IS required for boot.

Kstate - this is how nightmares are made!!!
The psu is a brand new 550 watt eps12v Truepower 2.0 server class. It says it is compatable with ssi/eps12v and atx12v v2 motherboards. It says it has 4 pin etc plugs but as it has no square 4 pin could this literally be for a server only? |

The 8-pin that you should have, should be able to break into two peices (2x 4). With that Mobo, you dont need any 8-pin and you only need 1 square 4-pin so you should be fine with that.
With the Video Card, make sure that you have a normal 4-pin molex plugged into the EZ-plug (or w/e) for the mobo (on the other side of the processor of the square 4-pin, next to the video card) Be sure to read through manual that comes with the mobo and follow all the steps correctly (thats what I did and everything loads up fine, now i just have a problem loading Win XP x64 but thats another matter) |

haha, yep, you should get there pretty quickly from here. Hopefully you wont run into the same error that I kept getting, it my just be my HDs or keyboard, not the mobo.
Glad I could help |
