fill in my blanks??
Okay so I am putting a new pc together and here is my half finished idea for it. Can you help me to fill in blanks with your suggestions??
Mobo - was thinking Asus P5WD2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131547 or this Intel board http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813121286 for PROCESSOR was thinking either Pentium D 820 or Pentium D 920 - For Power supply looking at Enermax Whisper PS http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103512 Memory = 2 gb Corsiar PC2-5300 DDR2 ram (2 sticks 1 gb each) Hard drive - a SATA HD, maybe 100 - 120 GB, 7200rpm, ....any brand name suggestions? Question, for the cd/dvd drive, what TYPE am i looking for? as in, what type of connections? Video card, maybe Power color radeaon X300SE PCI express card with 256 mb....decent? or no? Does this look okay or do I have any conflicting hardware that won't work together? Or should not go together? Any other ideas??? Thanks |

Hard drive: Seagate or Western Digital 7200 rpm 16Mb cache. Optical Drives: IDE connector, liteon is a good brand. OS: XP with SP2 OEM about $90 at newegg. Mitsumi has a nice floppy drive with a built in card reader for about 20 bucks. Power supply/Case: Take a look at the Antecs. Video Card: Depends on what you want to use the machine for. Everyday stuff like internet, mail, office type stuff, a motherboard with integrated video would be fine. Gaming, depends on the games you play. If you post what you play one of the gaming crowd can let you know if that card is sufficient.

The X300SE won't play latest games (ie, BF2, FEAR, etc) very well at all. You'll need to get at least into the X800/6600GT range if you want to play the latest games decently.
What all are you going to do with the computer? And what's your overall budget?

Honestly, you won't need a dual core if you aren't going to be doing anything intensive (like video encoding, etc). I would stick with the 630 or 631.

well i went with the dual because the P4's in higher speeds, like 3.6 or something were WAYYYY expensive, so since the dual Pentium D 930 was cheaper, i figured i would still get fast speeds out of it....was i wayyy wrong??

You won't notice any difference in every day web surfing and what not whether you get a 3.0GHz single core or a 3.8Ghz one or a dual core. The difference just isn't noticeable or worth the money. The 630 is plenty...you can get a dual core if you want, I just don't think its worth the money in your case.
