Upgrading

Im upgrading my motherboard and harddrive. Right now I have an ASUS A8V-E Deluxe and am thinking of getting ASUS A8N-Sli. Im wondering if this is a pretty good choice and also if there is really any reason for me to get the deluxe or premium edition? my harddrive I am just upgrading to a beter one since my old one is defective. what are some good harddrives? going with about 160 gb probably maybe more.

I use my computer mainly for playing games, but as a very active hobby of mine I do C++ programming and 3d graphics design and make my own games.

First off, why are you upgrading your motherboard? Additional ports and amenities? Upgrading to anything out in the market right now is not very cost effective at all unless if your current motherboard is broken. In terms of hard drives, Maxtor, WD, or Seagate will get the job done. If you intend to hover around 200GB of capacity for the HDD, look for drives that have a 16MB cache.

Cache is simply a quick access to data. It's a "queue", so to speak - whenever you access data, you would much rather access from the cache rather than the actual disks as the caches' access times are considerably smaller. A larger cache means there is a greater chance that the data the the system is looking for is available for quick access.

The Asus A8N-SLI is a nice motherboard if you intend on using nVidia's SLI. Otherwise, take a look into the Asus A8N5X.
