Question I Need Help With Cabling Please

Okay,

So I am buying from Newegg and hear that they frequently do not ship cables with your purchase, so I need a little advice on what I need. Below are some listings that will need cabling. Anything that can be suggested would be greatly appreciated.

THX

DVD Burner - What pin for power and anything else?

DVD Rom - What pin for power and anything else?

3.5” floppy - What pin for power and anything else?

SATA ATA150 - What pin for power and anything else?

SATA ATA150 - What pin for power and anything else?

Video Card - What pin for power and anything else?

AMD Opteron - It just slips in, no power cable right?

(2) 512mb RAM - Drop in, no cables

New motherboard ship with data cables/SATA cables and other bits for connections. The power suplly will have all the power connections. The other components somethimes ship with cables and screws. CPUs just drop into the socket then mount the HSU.

I suggest you wait for everything to arrive, then sit down take a deep breath and examine everything that you have and study the manuals, after that you will be able to be a little more specific about what you want to know.

Today's motherboards ususally ship with 1 80-wire IDE cable. This will cover you for both Optical drives, jumpered to the "cable select" position.

Your board will come with a Floppy drive data cable.

The board will ship with a few SATA cables, you install these one drive per cable.

Video cards drop straight into the slot, as does the RAM and CPU.

As for power, your Optical drives will use the standard Molex Connector, of which your power supply will have plenty. The Power supply will also have a connector for the floppy drive. Most SATA drives use a different (non Molex) power connector, but all modern quality power supplies will have these as standard. PCI-Express video cards often require a dedicated Power Connector, which again, a quality power supply should have.

If you post with your parts list, more specific advice can be given.

If the Opteron is a retail box, it comes with a heatsink/fan. If it's OEM, you will need to buy a heatsink/fan. A retail motherboard will come with all the cables you need.
