I'm stuck - New Build Won't Turn On
This last weekend I finished putting together the following build:
CASE Silverstone CS-SST-LC10B BLACK RT MB Asus A8N-SLI Premium NF4SLI 939 HD Seagate 300G ST 7K 8M SATA2 ST3300822AS PSU Seasonic S12-430 RT CPU AMD ATHLON 64 3200+ MEM Corsair XMS 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) VID GIGABYTE 6600 GT GV-NX66T256DE Made all connections, plugged in the PSU, turned on and nothing. The MB is getting power because the LED comes on. However, nothing else powers up, not the case fans, the CPU fan, the HD, nothing. I've double checked all the connections. Any thoughts, suggestions? |

It's unusual that the fans don't spin in this case, which indicates to me that the power supply isn't getting the cue to switch on and power up the components. Double and triple check the front Power switch connector is on the right pins on your motherboard; polarity doesn't matter on switches (but it does on LEDs).
Failing that, follow the steps detailed in this thread. It involves shorting the two 'power on' pins with a screwdriver, which would eliminate the possibility of a switch problem. http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=132409 FK

Thanks for the reply. I had already gone through the steps in the post, but no joy. I was beginning to think the power supply was dead because the fan on the PSU didn't work either. I spent some time on the Internet tonight. The very last FAQ on the Seasonic website was about shorting the green and black wires on the 24-pin connector. Tried that (with the PSU completely disconnected) and it powered right up and now seems to be working just fine. Go figure.
Thanks for the suggestions. |

MGGuy,
I'm having the same problem with a SeaSonic S12-500 and have a couple questions. [for details, see my post ~ 10 down from you] The FAQ - was it Q42 Power Supply Jump Start Guideline- To check if the PSU is functional? When you said "it powered right up and now seems to be working just fine" did you mean the PS is good or that now your PC is working? I have tried a PS tester and put the PS in a different PC & the PS seems OK. I'm just wondering if you somehow have a permanently jumpered fix or a magic "it lives" for the PS. Otherwise I'm thinking of RMA for the MB. Rags |

Both. Everything was out of the case when I found the FAQ. Disconnected the PSU from everything and used a paperclip to jump the black and green wires. PSU powered up. Before the fan would not spin. Tried this several times. Reconnected just the 24 pin connector to the MB. (With memory and vid card installed). Shorted the MB power switch pins. PSU and CPU fans came to life. Tried this several times.
Put everything back in the case. Got as far as hooking up the HD, vid card, case power switch and case fans. Everything powered up. All fans, hard drive started spinning. At that point I quit for the night. I'm praying it will work when I get home. If not I will RMA it. I didn't make any permanent changes to the PSU. Not sure why the short woke it up. When first hooked up it was putting out some power, but just enough to power the MB LEDs. So far not very impressed with SeaSonic. |

Alright.. I'm having the same problem. New computer, all the parts, doesn't turn on... I moved the connector for the power switch around several times to make sure I didn't plug it in wrong then I read the 'read this' thread, redid everything, shorted the pins, plugged it in, still didn't work.
Saw the Q42 thing about the paperclip, tried that, and my power supply doesn't even turn on... So... Does this mean I have a faulty power supply? |

Insanity, please start your own thread. It is easier to keep each person separate.
