need 2nd opinions for first build
just wanna make sure everything is compatible with each other and will work. it will probably be for not-so-heavy gaming and a not-so-heavy video or photo editing. like 50-50. here are the stuff i have my eye on:
motherboard: ASUS P5LD2 Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 945P ATX Intel Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131538 cpu: Intel Pentium 4 650 Prescott 800MHz FSB 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 EM64T Processor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116196 ram: CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) System Memory x2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145098 sound card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102188 video card: SAPPHIRE 100150 Radeon X1900XTX 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 Video Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102671 psu: Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-550 ATX12V 550W Power Supply 115/230 V UL, TUV, CB, FCC CLASS B, CUL http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103931 hdd: Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144701 os: Microsoft Windows XP Home With SP2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16837102059 fdd: MITSUMI Black 1.44MB 3.5" Internal Floppy Drive Model D359M3D/D359M3B http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16821104101 ide: [burner]LITE-ON Black 16X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 16X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 24X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2M Cache ATAPI/E-IDE DVD Burner http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106013 [player]LITE-ON Black 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM IDE DVD-ROM Drive Model SOHD-16P9SV http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827131417 a few questions: is my psu enough or too much? i am planning on maxing out my memory. is it overkill? i figured i'm gonna be doing games and video/photo editing, might as well max it out. last question, are they all compatible? thanks

The PSU is fine. That's a powerful unit and it should serve you well.
2GB should be more than enough for most people. You won't need DDR2-667 - DDR2-533 will work fine unless you intend on overclocking. Looks like a fine build to me. kram

it says on Newegg that my MoBo has a "DDR2 Standard: DDR2 667". so you're saying i can still use the 533? and plus... how do you overclock anyway? and what good does it do?

Your board can handle DDR2-667 but for your CPU, you only need DDR2-533.
Overclocking is tweaking your system to run faster then spec. Bumping your CPU 3.4Ghz to 3.6Ghz is overclocking. But I would not worry about it. Your system is fast as it is, you wouldn't notice any change. |

oh... ok. so what about maxing out my ram? should i or should i not? like i said i figured to max it out because of the applications that i'm gonna be using. maybe a little bit of heavy gaming but mostly for photo/video editing. what do you suggest i do?

The RAM would only end up running at DDR2 533 if you got DDR2 667 (It might bump up to 667 (not sure though), but it wouldn't help performance any).
Actually, looking on Newegg, the DDR2-667 is actually $10 cheaper...go figure.

You might also want to consider getting a computer case

oh sorry. i already bought the case. its a Thermaltake Shark Full Tower case.
So for the ram, just go for 2gb? ist that enough for the photo/video editing and some heavy gaming? and i can still use the ddr-667 right? even if my processor needs only 533... like blue60007 said, "it's $10 cheaper..." |

Remember that you can always add on memory as needed. 2GB should be sufficient. Yes, you can use DDR2-667.
