First Build and I need help
Alright.. I'm having a problem. New computer, all the parts, doesn't turn on... I moved the connector for the power switch around several times to make sure I didn't plug it in wrong then I read the 'read this' thread, redid everything, shorted the pins, plugged it in, still didn't work.
Saw the Q42 thing about the paperclip, tried that, and my power supply doesn't even turn on... So... Does this mean I have a faulty power supply? |

It could be your motherboard. Try unplugging everything except the CPU fan and turn the power on. If the CPU fan doesn't spin, try a different power supply if you have one. If after you put in a good power supply and the CPU fan doesn't spin, then it's probably the motherboard.

Does the power supply have a rocker switch on the back? Is it in the ON position?
With everything connected and plugged in, does a small LED light up on the motherboard? Cricket

I havn't seen a LED light.. and theres no indication that my computer gets any power. Nothing spins, nothing turns on or anything. The FAQ I'm referring too says to unplug all of the powersupply cords, short the green and black wires, then plug the AC cord back in and see if the power supply turns on. Doesn't do it..
Yes, it has a rocker switch, but.. come on.. thats worse than dumb to post if it was that simple |

Insanity, it's happened to people before, they're not "stupid", it's simply a common mistake.
Can you try another power supply? |

I don't have any other power supply thats compatible.. Is there any way I can test to see if its actually a dead power supply other than switching?

Hm... Seems like you've already tried shorting the black and green wires.
Can you RMA the power supply, or exchange it for a new one? |

It came with the case from Newegg... Havn't looked into it, but I could probably RMA/exchange. I just wanted to make sure that it was dead before I tried too.

Is the computer plugged directly into a wall outlet or to a surge suppressor? If everything is on and you've verified that the wall outlet does have electricity then you probably have a dead power supply in that case. Cricket

Tried it in a wall outlet, in a sruge protector, in a diffrent outlet, tried to start the computer up with both the button on 0 and on 1. Whatever happens, the powersupply's fans don't move, so... Its a dead powersupply then? Alright

Are you sure the 115/230 volt switch on the power supply is in 115?

Yep... I think I'm just going to order a new power supply, a bit beefier one

Its not uncommon for a PSU that has come with a case to fail - those things are junk. Only Antec seems to deliver quality units with thier cases.
What are your system specs? Perhaps the PSU just isn't big enough to power the system. |

3.0ghz Pentium 4 Prescott(775), intel BOXD955XBKLR mobo, 2 gigs of ram (2x1gb), eVGA 7800GT, 300gb Sata HDD, Sony CD/DVD drive, DVD burner (Forgot the brand, so sue me, heh), Logitech 5.1 speakers, Samsung 740n LCD...
Thats most of it, off the top of my head (Yes, I know, I bought it, I should know whats in it, but I'm forgetful of names of things). Its a 420W PSU... But, I don't get anything out of it. So... I'm probably going to need a better PSU later down the road, might as well keep the case (which I like) and buy a 520W PSU or something better, that will support more upgrades later on |

Be sure to buy a quality brand. Simply buying a PSU with more wattage is not the best solution.
This Antec will give you quality and more wattage. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103932 |

Alright... Its still not turning on, even got a new PSU. Just let me clarify before I start rebuilding everything, etc etc.
If you turn on the powersupply, the inside fan (it says on this paper that was on the PSU that the back only starts when its needed) should start spinning... right? |

Not necessarily. Some motherboards have fan controllers that will not turn on the fan until internal temperature reaches a certain point (in order to reduce noise).
What happens when you press the power button? If nothing happens, then perhaps you miswired the front panel switch. |

I'm not talking about the CPU fans, I'm talking about the fans in the PSU.
And.. I've tried changing the power button wire on the FP PWR/SLP and the PWR_SW_P/N cause I wasn't sure which one it was, but neither worked. I'm about to just take it to a shop and have them put it together, since I'm not having much luck... |
