Building a Comp from TigerDirect

Ok I am building a custom computer from TigerDirect. Here is a list of all of the components I have ,and product Id so you can look em up if you want:

* CP2-PD-940 C :: Intel Pentium D 940 3.20GHz / 4MB Cache / 800MHz FSB / Dual-Core / Presler / OEM / Socket 775 / Processor
* H222-2-CP2PD940C :: WACA 2 Year Replacement after Mfg. Warranty Ends
* P450-7834 :: XFX GeForce 7600 GT XXX / 256MB GDDR3 / SLI / PCI Express / Dual DVI / HDTV / Video Card with FREE Ghost Recon Advanced WarFighter
* L23-6244 :: Logitech MX310 Optical Mouse
* I204-2026 :: IoPlus Saitek Eclipse Illuminated Keyboard
* M501-1156 :: Sabrent 6-Port USB 2.0/FireWire IEEE 1394 PCI Combo Adapter Card w/6pin to 4pin Firewire Cable
* P67-1264 :: Plextor PX-755SA / 16x8x16x DVD+R/RW / 16x6x16x DVD-R/RW / 10x +R DL / 6x -R DL / 48x24x48x CD-R/RW / Black/White Bezels / SATA Internal DVD Burner
* H222-1-P671264 :: WACA 1 Year Replacement after Mfg. Warranty Ends
* L12-1048 :: Lite-on SOHC-5236K / 52x32x52x CD-RW / 16x DVD-ROM / Black / Combo Drive
* TSD-160JS :: Western Digital / Caviar SE / 160GB / 7200 / 8MB / SATA-300 / OEM / Hard Drive
* A455-1066 :: Asus P5ND2-SLI NVIDIA Socket 775 ATX Motherboard / Audio / PCI Express / SLI / Gigabit LAN / USB 2.0 / Serial ATA / RAID
* A406-1024 :: NZXT Nemesis Elite Black Aluminum ATX Mid-Tower Case with Clear Side, Front USB and Audio Ports and 400-Watt Power Supply
* O261-8032 :: OCZ Dual Channel XTC 2048MB PC5400 DDR2 667MHz Gamer Memory (2 x 1024MB)

The fan I am buying elsewhere (Freezer 7). Everything else is from TigerDirect. What cables, cords, wires, etc do I need for this rig? Is there anything I can add? I am aware I dont need SLI, but it was the cheapest dual-channel ram mobo there was.

Also, what PSU do you recommend. This is my first pc, and I would like these components (unless there is something horribly wrong), but what cords and power supply do I need?

Thanks for your time!

1. Compare prices with other online vendors such as Newegg. Tiger Direct is not noted for customer service or decent pricing on quality components. Their inexpensive stuff is garbage.

2. Antec Truepower II - 550 is an excellent power supply. The NZXT power supply is total junk.

3. The P5ND2 series does not support a 940. You need a P5LD2 or P5WD2 series.

4. Why a OEM processor and an aftermarket heatsink/fan? The retail boxed processor comes with a heatsink/fan and a 3 year warranty.

5. I'd save some serious cash and get a standard IDE DVD burner - and I'd get a Lite-On. Yes, Plextor is top of the line, but you will never notice the difference - and the Lite-Ons are so cheap (40 bucks?) if it fails after the 1 year warranty expires, it's no big deal replacing it.

6. I'd shy away from XFX - they are a division of PC Chips - eVGA is a better video card manufacturer.

7. You don't need that "special" ram - mainstream quality brand DDR2-533 is all you need unless you are going to be overclocking that rig - which isn't necessary, it's plenty fast stock.

8. The motherboard comes with all the cables and stuff you should need.

9. If you need Firewire and the motherboard doesn't have it, just get a dedicated Firewire card. You do not need a combo card with USB, all the motherboards these days come with a ton of USB ports, both on the rear and headers for the front panel jacks, and having a separate USB controller may cause conflicts.

1. I have DSL and newegg takes 2 mins to load each page.

2. Which is why I am getting the OCZ PowerStream

3. Ok

4. The included heatsink/fan sounds like a dentist drill and doesnt cool well enough.

5. I wanted a SATA omnidrive cause I only have one IDE port on that mobo. (not sure on new ones)

6. Ok ill take a look at em.

7. Gaming rig, less than perfection isnt good enough.

8. Sweet

9. Ill take a looksee.

Ty for answering!

You say you need the expensive OCZ ram because you are gaming and need perfection, but really a cheaper ram would do fine since you didnt mention any plans to overclock it. Also if you really want a gaming rig of perfection why not upgrade your video card? The 7600GT is nice but the 7800 and 7900 are better, or you could look at ATI, such as the x1800xt or for a lot more the x1900xt(not really necessary). If I were you id pick a cheaper ram and put it towards your video card.

Oh and thats very strange, I find newegg just as fast as tiger direct. They really do have cheaper prices usually.

I second the thought that you don't need "special" RAM.

Just because it has a flashy name doesn't mean it will make your gaming experience any better. Try Corsair's ValueSelect line. The name isn't flashy, but the price is, and the performance is just the same.

Like GuitarHero suggested, take the money you save from using Value RAM, and get a nicer video card.

Also, my stock HSF doesn't make much noise, and no noise at all, once it's behind the shell of my case. If your PC fan currently sounds like a "dentist drill", then you may have a problem with that particular fan.

I'm also building my first PC and getting a lot of my parts from Tigedirect ... I have to disagree with their pricing, they have some amazing deals. I got my mobo (asus and P4 chip) for $199 and my 500W Ultra psu for $65 ... not too bad there.

Hey on newegg, you should check out their lite version of their site. Should be able to load faster. The link is up top right next to the search box, left hand side.

just my $0.02.
