Red face Help with old Computer

It's not exactly a new computer but I've used for more than x years now. I built it myself back then.

Now it's giving me some problems, just today. And it's serious to the point that I can't do anything with it.

Symptoms:

I turn on the computer and it boots just fine. It can boot up to windows and just become idle like normal. BUT, then it'll just turn itself "off". I put it in quotations because it's not really off. It still on but it's just sitting there, humming. So my problem is that the:

- Monitor blanked out, no signal. (it's new vid card, about 6 months with no problems)
- Fan speed decreasing (not sure if it's my cpu or power supply, both maybe).
- Can't do anything.

Weird thing is, AFTER a lot of the time the comp does this, I would hear the fan speed increase again (again not sure if it's ps or cpu, maybe both) without me doing anything and it would reboot by itself and the monitor turns back on.

But then it does that again, it...hibernates then goes in a loop of reboots. The longer I leave it on (without turning it off), the lesser the period of reboot.

Example: It was off, like cable was plugged off, plugged it back in and turned it on and it goes to windows fine without crapping out. Next 'self-initiated' reboot it won't even go as far as windows bootup screen. And after that it goes to windows fine again. But it ALWAYS turns itself "off" and "on" automatically. It's sparodic. No pattern at all.

I'm not sure how else to describe it but that's the best desc I can give.

What could be wrong, i know it can be a myriad of different reasons but before going to repair it, I'd like to be a little prepared. Maybe i can repair it myself, it's been a while since I tinker though

Thanks a Lot,
Harii

We limit threads to one per topic/problem. I'll close this one.
