having trouble with a new build

I just finished my first build and I ran into few problems

Now after reading many threads and seeing how I was commiting electronic suicide.
I will in my own little newbie way try to explain my issue, which is close, but not listed to my knowledge in the boards. I began by just trashing the two old computers and buying 2 new ones figured I could take old parts and make another one. THESE ARE NOT SPECS.This is a shopping spree haha .

Mobo MB GIGABYTE GA-8I848P-G
Cpu CPU INTEL|P4 2.8A
Memory /kingston MEM 1G|KST D333
Cd drive/recycled
Westdigital hd /recycled 40 g

I did everything according to directions loaded all cards and etc rebooted and everything was great. Got all the way to even setting up win xp loading mobo drivers sfter the last
Driver dl from the cd it reboots and everthing is gone in the bios it says drive none
AND I can not get back into to win xp unless I start the process all over reenter bios.
i have checked the battery Need help please
