New build - 3 problems....
I have just finished my first build, but have a few little problems. Here are the specs.....
Motheboard DFI LanParty UT NF4 Ultra-D (Socket 939) CPU AMD Athlon 64 3700 Memory G Skill RAM 2Gb Graphics Card Leadtek GeForce 7600 GS SILENT 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express Soundcard Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum eX Hard Drive Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 10 NCQ 250GB 6V250F0 SATA-II 16MB Cache - DVDRW Sony DWG120A 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter (Silver) - OEM (CD-048-SO) PSU Hiper HPU-4B580 Type R 580W Modular ATX2.2 PSU - Blue (CA-006-HP) CPU Fan Thermaltake Blue Orb II Socket 939/754/775) Floppy OcUK Value Floppy Drive - Silver Fan controller Akasa AK FC-03 Fan Controller Pro Case SilverStone "TEMJIN" J02S-W (Silver) Aluminium Front/SECC Body Tower case+Window Side Panel Problem 1. I've obviously been installing all the drivers I need, most of which require a reboot. But when my computer restarts, it shuts down then just hangs and doesn't come back up. If I then hit the reset button it comes up fine. Any ideas? Problem 2. I cannot get into the bios on startup. Initially I had a problem with it going into hibernation after about 20 mins (annoying when you're trying to setup Windows) and figured it might be a power managment issue in the bios - but cannot get into the bios. The screen just flashes up and doesn't give to time to even read it! Any way I can slow this down? or can anybody with the same motherboard tell me what key it is so I can just tap it as it's starting? Problem 3. I have a fan controller which I have hooked up to the CPU fan OK, but the connections to the case fans are different. Do I need some sort of converter? Thanks for your help. |

Problem 2: As soon as you power up, start hitting the DEL key or which ever is the key to use on a DFI board to get into the BIOS.
Problem 3: The CPU fan has to be plugged into the mother board in the the spot marked "CPU Fan". The BIOS monitors the fan RPMs.

No, I have an Akasa AK FC-03 Fan Controller which I use instead of hooking it up to the Motherboard. I'm going to use this to control the case fans also, but the connections are different.

Listen to flanzig1 the CPU fan MUST be hooked up to the assigned mobo fan connector for the processor!

You should not use a fan controller for the CPU fan. Use it for all the case fans if you want.

Oh really! why do some cpu fand come with a controller? Take a look at this, it doesn't make sense. It says connect the 3 pin connector of the "Y" fan to the mobo!? Y fan?

That very link you just mentioned said the CPU fan MUST be connected to the mobo! The mobo must sense the CPU fan to operate properly! Fan controllers are for the case fans only. The mobo regulates the CPU fan that's why it has a special connector just for the CPU. It is also a protection for your CPU if the fan fails it will shut your PC down before the processor blows!

I understand that, and agree - it MUST be connected to the mobo. But that very link I mentioned was also about how to connect the CPU fan, up to the fan controller supplied with the CPU Fan, AND to the mobo.
I just don't understand HOW you do this as there doesn't seem to be enough connectors to do it. |

I personally would not want to hook my CPU fan up to a fan controller, the mobo controls the CPU fan. Maybe it's a misprint in the directions as the CPU fan is suppose to be directly hooked to the mobo. I don't understand your reluctance to do so, but it's your PC do what you want.
