If the unit boots into XP OK, the bios may be set for "fast boot". On today's computers with fast boot selected, they are fast enough not to see the BIOS POST screen.

What do you mean with "the bios is gone" ? Do you mean you can't see the text anymore like flanzig1 suggest, or does the computer refuse to boot at all and you only get a black screen ?

When you were in the BIOS and made changes; did you exit with saving changes?

yes i did. The first time it happened I thought maybe I had made that mistake so I went into bios changed it. It rebooted and the bios was fine on the next boot it returned to orignalstate. So i read some more and thought trouble might be in the battery so i checked the battery and it was fine. So I thought well I can try once more maybe I config bios incorrectly I ran through it again and it happened again so I dont have a clue what to check next .

If you checked the battery with a volt meter and reads less than 2.9 volts replace it. Also, check the mother board, it may have a "clear cmos" jumper than may be in the wrong spot.

ok yes that is what i checked next for this perticular board, if i am seeing and reading corrrectly, the clear cmos has to have a jmpr on it and it does not so therefore it would not clear unless you put the jumper on the post . I replaced the battery , it still did it. So what shall we do next ?

Patience, we don't live here.
![]() Try clearing your CMOS using that jumper. It should clear out any strange settings and give you a fresh slate. |
