New Build
This is my first build in quite a while so my "skills" are somewhat flakey, especially when it comes to picking the components. Anyway, here's the basic list of the stuff I'm looking to buy in a few weeks time. Would appreciate some suggestions and/or criticisms before I go ahead and buy it.
Aiming for a gaming build mostly, that'll also be good for 3D Graphics work for next year at Uni. =) PSU: FSP Sparkle FX600-GLN Epsilon 600W ATX2.0 PSU (CA-002-SK) Motherboard: ASUS A8N-SLI Premium skt939 nForce4 Gigabit Ethernet Firewire 8channel audio Processor: AMD Athlon 64 (ADA4400CDBOX) X2 4400+ socket 939 Dual Core 2.2Ghz 1Mb and 1Mb Cache HDD: Seagate ST3160023AS 160GB 7200rpm Barracuda 7200.7 SATA Graphics Card: XFX GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail RAM: (2x) Corsair (CMX1024-3200PT) 1024MB, DDR400 / PC3200, non-ECC, 184 DIMM, unbuffered, 3-3-3-8, 64Mx8 DRAMs, Silver Heat Spreader Planning to get a second graphics card in a month or two to take advantage of the SLi mobo, money will be a bit tight after I've bought all this though. Anyway, as I said. Some advice would be really appreciated as it's been a while since I've built a new computer and picking parts was never my strong point. ![]() One last question, any suggestions on a good sized, sturdy case. Ventilation is key for me as my last computer had a few problems with heat at one point. =) Thanks Sam |

I was checking the SLi website for compatible PSUs and it was one of the ones on the list. I'm open to better suggestions though ;-)

Sparkle PSUs are good.
As for cases; Antec are good, others to look at: Coolmaster,Li Lian, Thermaltake.

That power supply is certified for dual 7900GTX's. No problem.
If money is tight, why go for the absolute top end on video cards? The increase in performance is really not much for the extreme additional expense. High speed premium ram is also a questionable value on an AMD 64 platform. |

I agree with GLC, premium ram isn't really necessary.. there's not much difference between the value select and one with tighter timings... unless your pursuing overclocking.
