HDD/BIOS issue...Please help!!!

MB: Gigabyte Ga-81pe1000-g
Processor: Intel celeron D 2.8 Ghz
Graphics: nVidia FX 5200 128 MB
HDD: 120 GB IDE Maxtor 7200

Hello all! Any help you can give me with this issue would be great. I thank everyone in advance!

Here is the problem....new build, boots up fine into the BIOS, BIOS recognized both CD drives and floppy drive but does not recognize the HDD. Its set to master, i've tried switching cables to rule out a faulty cable, put power to it and i feel it spinning. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks so much.....

Set the jumper to CS.. That may help but I would think master should work also, but with modern IDE 80 wire cable the proper setting is CS.. You may have a defective drive there.. If you have another harddrive you could put in it's place to see if it gets recognized, and just double check the BIOS advanced settings to be sure both ide controllers are enabled.

Thanks so much for the advice.......

I have tried both master and cable select with no luck. I will try to plug in another drive later and see if i have a defective drive. I'm using the cable that came with the MB, do you think that could be the problem? It worked with the cd drives, just not with the HDD......Thanks again....

The only other swap I would try is just try the harddrive on the secondary channel because you know it's good to be sure it's not the primary ide channel that is bad.
