Present for my mother

I want to build a computer for my mother as a present, she will need to be able to use the internet and be able to play some basic games, nothing extravagant, but i have a budget of about 400-500 dollars to work with, the keyboard mouse and possibly even monitor could be salvaged from a old computer. If you got any tips on a system I can build within that price range for her, I'd really appreciate it.

4-500 dollars, get a dell, their bulk prices mean that it would be easier to get a dell, especially since they have warrenties and etc.

I would have to agree with 786ARS. Any budget under around $600, a Dell is the best option given their bulk buying power.

Whilst getting a DELL is always a reasonable option for a lower powered system, I specced out this AMD build for you. The motherboard has onboard video, but also a PCI-Express slot should you see the need to upgrade, and the power supply included in the case will handle a lower end PCI-E card. It allows you room in the budget to get peripherals, but if you have any cash spare, I'd suggest bumping up the memory to 1GB.

ASUS K8N-VM - $65

AMD Sempron 64 3000+ - $80

Corsair VS 512MB - $42

Seagate SATA 80GB HD - $51

Antec Case+350w PSU - $55

Lite-on DVD-RW - $37

Total = $330

FK

EDIT: You'll also need to figure an Operating system into the cost, unfortunately that pushes up the cost.

New total = $420
