New to PC building. Need help.
Ive recently just recieved my parts from tigerdirect and have started building my computer already. So far, ive had no problems with adding the mobo, the CPU, and the Cooler fan. For the Harddrive and the DVD drive, Ive had no problem with that. Graphics card, and Ram all finished.
Now the problems that I am having are: Sound card. I bought a Creative Labs Sound Blaster 24 bit. That only came with the card itself. I added it into a slot on my mobo, but i seem to be missing alot of cables that are supposed to fit in my sound card. Such as a white 11 pin cable, and a 4 pin black cable. Creative Labs did not give me any of those cables, nor did my Asus mobo. Ive read that I had to connect the Audio cable from the front of my case (it came with my case already) to my sound card, but the pins don't match. It looks like this. :.::: That pattern of pins can only connect to an audio slot on my mobo, but I want to use my sound card for sounds. I also have another cable that never came with my DVD drive or my Sound card. Its the audio cable that connects from my sound card to my DVD drive. Please tell me if i need any of these cords in order to use the sound card, because the manual for Creative labs did not say I needed any of the cords and to use plug it in the PCI slot. All i want is to play sound using my speakers, nothing else. My next problem im having is the power cables. Ive plugged the necessary 24 pin power cable to my mobo. And the 4 square pin to another slot. All the tape cables have been connected to my drives. Though I am having alot of difficulty with my fans. My power cords offer a 4 pin fan connectors. So what do i do. Do i connect my fans to any of my power cords, then connect any of the fan connects to the slots on the mobo? Or does it have to be from a specific fan connector. Does it matter which fan connector i connect to on my Mobo. My last problem would have to be my graphics card power connector. It came with 2 3 pin connectors that are supposed to connect to the power supply. Can i use a 3 pin connector for this? Here are my problems in a simpler way. -Sound card, missing cords, and do i need them. -Fans and power supply, do they have to be connected in a specific way, or do they all link to one another. -Graphics card came with 2 3 pin connectors, is that ok? I am not planning to hire a computer technician, because i don't want to go through all the hassle and paying, etc. If you could help, all would be appreciated, thanks alot. |

Sound card: that card probably doesn't have the capability to connect external jacks
Fans: CPU fan to the mobo/case fans w/4 pin molex connect to a spare 4 pin molex from the PSU Video card: Check the manual for proper power connections

Thanks for the reply.
So the case fans don't have to connect to the mobo? And the manual that came with my graphics card (DiabloTek 6800 GS) only gave me instructions to how to install the drivers. |

I have a 450 W power supply that came with the case. And no it didn't come with a 6 pin connector. What i did was just connect both of the 3 pin connectors to 2 different 4 pin connectors.
Though I just connected all my cables and everything. I turned on my power for the computer, I saw the green LED light that is on the mobo. But as soon as i press the power button, nothing starts up. Ive double checked my cables and everything, everything besides my Graphics Card im not sure about. |

What case/psu is this? If your power supply doesn't have the 6 pin PCI-E power plug it's probably not ATX2.0 spec needed with a PCI-E card. Also, the PSU is probably junk (only a few case manufacturer's put quality power supplies with their case). See if you can get a brand name or something off the label on the side of the power supply.

The brand name is "Xion". Which is the brand name of my Case too.
And is there any reason why my mobo is getting power, but not my fans and my cpu fan? Edit: This is what the 2 molex connectors look like. |O O O o| |O O O o| As you can see, the Os are the pins, and the 'o' is the empty slot on the connector. They are seperate and not attached. I took a quick look at the manual. Even it doesn't list any 450W power supplies.
I looked a few XION cases with 450W PSUs on Newegg and they all came with different PSUs. I saw some "Azza" ones and some XIONs. What you are describing sounds like "Fan Only" connectors that come on some PSUs. Those, however, only have 2 (provides a 12V and a ground that fans uses) wires instead of 3. Is this the type of plug you are describing? (yours only has 3 wires you say, but what about the plastic connector part?) Last edited by blue60007; 05-22-2006 at 03:41 PM. |
