wont' boot up
I've just put together all the parts for my new system. I robbed the hard drive from my old computer. The thing starts up fine goes through all the checks and then flashes a blue screen real fast and then the monitor says no signal. After that the computer reboots. If I put the window's XP cd in the drive it will let me play around on the drive using the repair feature. I put my hard drive back into my old computer and it worked fine. What's going on here, what do I need to do to get the computer to boot of my hard drive? Short of reformatting.
Thanks jcw |

Because of the hardware in your new system is completely different to that of the old, your Windows XP installation is failing to boot. You'll need to perform a repair install. Do this by booting from the CD as you've already done, and press 'enter' to install. The software will detect the existing installation, and give you the option to repair. Press 'R' to do this.

That did the trick. I found it much easier though to proceed like I was going to do a fresh install and when it saw that there was exisiting window's instailed to repair it then.

Yes, that's the way the process has to be done. Sorry if I didn't make that clear in my previous post.
