On the operating system, unless there is specifically something on the "WinXP Plus!" edition you find appealing, I would recommend going buying the MS WinXP Home OEM normal instead.

As for monitor, CRT or LCD, that'll be up to you. I would highly recommend you look into LCD Monitors, as they are more than ready to play today's game with no visible ghosting effects. A 19 inch LCD monitor, which will have a larger viewable area than the CRT, generally comes out around 215 USD shipped. If you do decide to go LCD, look at the Acer 19" LCD as an option.

Some good parts there. You didn't elaborate on your budget, but see if you can figure a dual core processor into the list - it's the way games and other applications are headed.

Corsair XMS memory is generally seen as unnecessary, unless you're an overclocker, but recent rebates on the XMS line have brought prices down to similar levels as the Value Select range. I believe the memory you chose is only $5 more expensive than the VS equivalent.

I'd suggest getting a TFT monitor; after a couple of years with one myself, i can hardly stand to look at a CRT any more.

Just expanded on Freakitchen's post: Poke around the XMS RAM - I think there was a 2 gig kit that was cheaper than Value Select after a $50. Here we go:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145575

They had it spotlighted on the memory page (probably random products there anyways)...WOW....that's a good deal - Value Select is $160 right now...if you don't mind paying a few extra bucks now, that rebate brings the XMS down to $20 cheaper.

Agreed about the LCD monitor - they take up less space, are easier on the eyes, and don't weigh a half ton.
