Hi,
This is a new PC build. On completing the build and attempting first boot, power came on, fans (including CPU fan) all worked, but there was no beep and no further action. The keyboard lights flashed at a constant rate. Dismantled everything, and reconnected only CPU, RAM, GFX and keyboard to motherboard outside of case in mobo box. Connected monitor to GFX card, and PSU to motherboard. Powered up and exactly the same thing happened: no boot, flashing keyboard lights. It IS possible to turn off the computer with the soft power switch, as long as you hold it for around 5 seconds. Are the flashing keyboard lights a mobo error code of some kind, as I can't find any information on this? They are on for longer than they are off. There are roughly 2 on/off cycles per second. Relevant spec of build is below. Is a relatively inexpensive build for a low-use friend. This is my 5th build and haven't encountered any problems before. Any help much appreciated. Cheers in advance, Sam Mobo: Asus K8V-X SE SKT754 Processor: AMD Sempron 3000+ (SDA3000BXBOX) 64 Bit Architecture 1.8Ghz Skt 754 Boxed RAM: Kingston 512MB DDR PC3200 400MHz CL3 Memory Module x2 GFX: Connect3d Radeon 9250 SE 128MB DDR TV Retail Last edited by samjwjones; 05-23-2006 at 04:24 PM. |

What brand is the power supply?
Did you connect both motherboard power connectors from the power supply? Did you try a different keyboard yet? Cricket

Hi Cricket, thanks for your reply.
PSU is a standard 400W one which came as a case bundle from ebuyer. The manufacturer is "COLORSit". Yep, both power connectors done. All connections have been checked, double checked, and triple checked. Keyboard is an old one of mine I use only to set up new computers. It worked fine last week. Cheers, Sam |

I would try a different power supply first just to rule that out.
Then I would try another keyboard. You might want to try another video card and maybe test the RAM too. Cricket

OK, will do when I wake up.
The keyboard shouldn't affect the boot though, should it? |

You might want to take a close look at the keyboard. When I worked on my recent build, I couldn't get the machine to go into the BIOS. (I didn't have the issue with the flashing keyboard lights however.) I checked the keyboard and found that one of the pins on the connector at the end of the keyboard cable was missing. I replaced the keyboard with another one that I knew was functioning, and voila - I could now get into the BIOS.
