New Build - No Boot
I have assembled a new PC...
ABIT UL8 MB AMD Athlon 64 512 MB Memory When I installed the hard drive (one I pulled from my old system) it wont boot fully...I can get to the BIOS and it is set as the primary master...when I attempt to boot, it tells me that windows xp wasnt properly shut down previously and it asks me if I want to start in SAFE MODE...no matter what I select the system reboots and returns me to the same screen over and over again... Does anyone have an idea about what is wrong? Should I reinstall the drive into my old PC to make sure it boots and is shut down correctly? Any help would be greatly appreciated. CRM |

Have you run a repair install of Windows? Boot from the Windows install CD, then select Install (not the recovery console). It will find the existing install and ask you if you want to do a repair: do so.

I have not run a repair install. Should I then configure the boot drive be the CD-ROM and use the XP CD to boot? In doing the repair will I lose the data currently housed on the machine? CRM |

Yes, configure it to boot from the CD first.
You should not lose your data when you do a repair install. |
