PC build question/recommendations
Hey guys. I'm putting a computer together for my brother. From his old computer we are going to use his graphic's card (ATI Radeon 9600xt AGP), his soundblaster card, CD-ROM, and his floppy.
Trying not to spend more than $600 on the following: What I need: HDD (dont need a huge one, about 80GB is fine) CPU RAM (1GB) Power Supply My main problem is finding one of the newer Mobos with a Socket T (LGA 775) capability but also with a AGP slot for my brothers old graphics card. The ones I have been able to find all do not have AGP slots but instead a PCI 16x slot. was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations or know of a good mobo that would fit for me. *** Preferrably on newegg.com because of the no payment till december that my brother wants. thanks a ton.

I think you'll be better off dumping the old AGP card and going with a newer PCI-E card (the 9600 isn't going to play modern games very well anyways, you might as well make the system upgradable...). If he isn't a gamer, you wouldn't need anything fancy. Trying to incorporate older, un-upgradable, technolgies isn't really a good idea. What all does he want to do with the computer?

For a budget PCI-E card, look at the X800GTO. Just over $100 and a very capable card for gaming: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814131007

I would go for a 939 socket mobo like this and this CPU its not the fastest CPU, but it will handle all the current games. you can upgrade to a 939 X2 later now that the AM2s are out. prices should drop. |
