I am kind of jumping the gun on this, but I really enjoy scoping out computer parts online... This build won't take place for another month or so, after I fix my Intel.
PC Use: I am not a serious gamer. I play Zoo Tycoon 1 & 2, The SIMs, Age of Mythology, Lords of the Realm, a few other SIM type PC games and SIM type online games. No serious over the 'net stuff... I also do a lot of image rendering and graphic making for web pages. Money Limit: Oh, I don't know. I really only need help with the MoBo and CPU. The less the better, but I want to get the most for my money. The MoBo MUST have at least 3 PCI slots. PCI-E is not important to me, but for future upgrades, I would like to have them on my board. Also, more memory slots, the better. At least 3G. I want AMD. I am sick of trying to find upper grade CPU fans to help with my current Intel's overheating issues. I know the newer Intels produce more heat, so I am just trying to stay away from them at all possible costs. Plus, once my current Intel is fixed, we are keeping it and using that for all media needs. I am open to Tiger Direct buys, and actually prefer them, but I am also up for a Newegg order - or a maybe bits and pieces from both. No biggy. What I have Picked out: Case: Sunbeam Transformer (black; will have green lights) PSU: Ultra X-Finity 500w w/ ForceFlex cables (maybe a 550w, depends on my hardware )RAM: Ultra, 1G PC3200 400 (off TigerDirect for $65) Video Card: Eh, I'll decide after the MoBo/CPU is picked I have a Zip drive, a Floppy and a DVD burner already (will need to paint them all - they are all beige). I only need a new DVD-ROM and a HDD, I will pick that out later too. Those things are trivial to me right now. Last edited by Reyvaughn; 05-30-2006 at 06:24 PM. |

Take a look at the ASUS A8N-E motherboard. Good price has all the good stuff. Nvidia 4 ulta chip set, lots of fan connections.... etc
Check put the AMD Athlon 64 X2 series of CPU's. I do alot of video editiing and graphics work too and I picked the 4400, because of the cache. The stock cooling set up is pretty good too... Video card.... I like XFX because of the warranty. The GeForce series 7 is not really over the top but has handled everything I've thrown at it. Lee

I can't afford an X2... I wish, lol!
Here's what I have picked: CPU Motherboard HSF The video card may take some time to actually decide on! So may to choose from! I haven't had anything better than what I have now, and I am quite happy with my XFX GeForce 5200 256MB - I don't care if they really aren't that great. It keeps me happy. I really don't need a new video card, I can always use my 5200 for now, and put the 128MB ATI Rage in my current Intel tower. I can always upgrade later! |

If your getting that motherboard just because of the open box price, then just try this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16813131530R Theres no need for SLI for your build, it just uses more power and costs more. Just to make this clear - That HSF bundle is for your Intel chip right? If not, theres no need for it, the retail AMD HSF assembly that come with the 3500+ is just fine |

What you chose is fine. I would switch the motherboard to the Asus A8N5X: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131569
The A8N-SLI is a great board, but theres no reason for it if you don't need SLI. And I wouldn't take a chance on an Open Box board when you can get a new one for the same price. Check out the Radeon X550 video cards. They are inexpensive, but should handle your games fine. Especially if your 5200 already works. Keep in mind that a seperate HSF will void your warranty. The HSF that comes with the Retail CPU you chose will be fine for cooling. I would skip Ultra ram, it is Tiger's generic brand. Corsair ValueSelect is higher quality. Don't forget Windows XP. |
