I/o Shield Important?

I put the new Mobo into my case, but the I/O shield that came with the mobo doesn't fit into my case when the spacers are applied to the mobo. is this piece really needed?

You should install the I/O shield before you put the motherboard into the case.

At any rate, no, it's not exactly required for the operation of your computer, but it does keep dust out of the case.

thanks for the info. I did install the I/O before installing the mobo, however once i screwed in the spacers and tried to line up the mobo with the I/O it just does not match up. the spacers make the mobo sit too far off the case for it to match up to the I/O
