New build problems...

I just built my first build, and it's having a huge problem...it seems that every time I turn it on It makes it to the first BIOS screen, and then suddenly(as soon as I select to go to SETUP) it turns off. Even if I don't select to go to setup or anything, it shuts itself off after 40 seconds or so.
Computer specs:
ABIT AL8 Socket T(LGA775) Intel 945P Motherboard
512MB X1800XT Radeon Graphics Card
Intel Pentium 4 640 Prescott 800 Mhz FSB LGA 775 Processor
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2ZS 7.1 CHannel Interface Sound card
2GB Corsair 240-pin DDR2 533 Ram
Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 SATA 250 Gb Hard Drive
400W PSU(Case one)

P.S.-Please don't rant on about AMD vs Intel, I would just like help with this problem. I also turned it on with the case open..and same problem so it's nto heating.

The first thing to check is whether the cpu heatsink is locked down properly. Those lga775 heatsinks are a little tricky to get on right.
The second likely suspect is the power supply. Very few cases come with decent quality power supplies, Antec and Enermax are among the few that do. What brand and model is that case? If it is from someone like aspire or nzxt that uses junk PSU's that
could be the problem.

I'm pretty sure the Heatsink, is in..it doesn't have problems...I don;t know the brand name of the PSU maybe L&C, but it's 400W. The case is an ATOP Xblade Midtower

L&C's are known to be poor quality. From my googling, the power supply in your case only has 20pins for the ATX power connection. Your motherboard has a 24pin connection. Simply put, you need to replace your power supply.

You will need to spend a little extra for quality, but this is an excellent unit. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103931

Oh..but the PSU an extra 4 pins on it's 20-pin cnnector so it connects to all the pins on the mother board, but I suspected it was a bad PSU anyways.

I was wondering if this PSU would be good. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817182009

I also have another questions if you have a 20+4pin connector, does it work with a 24-Pin? becuase that is what I have right now, and I think that may be the problem.

That's not a quality unit either.

Your video card *requires* a minimum 450 watt power supply, by the way. This is probably the least I'd go with:

But if the power supply was insufficient wouldn't the computer just not turn on at all?

The computer can still start up. The power supply is then overloaded and shuts down quickly. You need to replace the unit.

The 20+4 has no effect. The last 4 pins are removable for older motherboards. You still have a full 24pin connection.

I also got freeze prob

I've also got a prob. and instead of creating a new thread i thought this might be more "efficient".
I finished my build recently, and everything was working fine. However halfway through installing NORTON ANTI-VIRUS I canceled the installation and tried to uninstall what was there. however it still was showing up on my programs list and I couldnt get rid of it. After this my computer started freezing, I started rebooting and it still kept freezing. So I reformatted with windows xp, that SEEMS to have fixed the prob. No freezes for 3 days..
I thought it might have been overheatting my system idles at 33 degrees Celcius, Is that hot for a computer. Can Norton Anti-Virus ruin Systems?
Im very worried, its my first build and I put 700$ into it so far. Any help appreciated, thank you!

Erom:

We prefer you start your own thread so we can follow each person's situation easily. Thanks.

However, 33C is a prefect temperature, no worries. Skip Norton altogether. Use free apps like AVG and Avast.

I think I have a bad board or Mobo now I turned the CPU on with only one stick of RAM and the CPU and heatsink combo...and it didn;t work. I'm betting on the CPU or Mobo with makes me very, very sad.
