Hi. I am new to these forums and haven't quite found someone with similar problems and am desperately seeking help on my new/first build. The problem that I am experiencing is that I get halfway through an OS install (either XP or Fedora Core 5) before my PC completely turns off. I went to a computer store locally to get some help in possibly narrowing down the problem, and we swapped out my RAM, and still experienced the same problem effectively eliminating the possibility that it is a problem with my RAM. I left the store with them telling me that it is possibly my motherboard that is causing the problem. Later inspection has also effectively ruled out GPU since I get graphical interface on screen.
My system specs are as follows: CPU: AMD X2 4400+* PSU: COOLER MASTER 600 W eXtreme power* RAM: OCZ 2 x 1 GB DDR 400* MOBO: ASUS A8N-SLI* GPU: eVGA NVIDIA 7900 GT * HDD: Western Digital 7200 RPM 160GB (SATA) OPTICAL: Pioneer DVR-710 CASE: ASPIRE X-Cruiser * denotes bought from Newegg.com Any help that you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Go into the BIOS and check the CPU temps and check the different voltages from the PSU. Just let it set in the BIOS to see if the temps rise and/or shuts down. If the temps goes up; HSU may not be on correctly and if the voltages are off by 5% + or - , amy have a problem with the PSU.

So I powered it on and let it run for about 10-15 mins with no power down. The Voltages and temps displayed:
VCore: 1.36 - 1.61, Avg. 1.36 V 3.3V Voltage: 3.32 - 3.34, Avg. 3.34 V 5V: 4.99 - 5.05, Avg. 5.02 V 12V: 11.64 - 12.03, Avg. 11.71 CPU Temp: Stabilized at 33 C M/B Temp: Stabilized at 31 C Temps rose slowly to those listed. |

The voltages and temps look good. It just shutting down still sounds like PSU problems. Do you have all of the mobo power connections made: 24 pin ATX and the 4 pin Aux?
