Problem with my first build

Hi,
I have just finished building my first computer. When I powered it on, I was asked to press Del to enter Setup. But when I pressed Del, the screen went blank. I restarted the PC, this time I got this message: "CMOS checksum error: Default loaded". Then I was prompted to press F1 to continue or Del to enter Setup, but either key gave me a blank screen.
How do I solve this problem? Help!

Here's the spec of my comp: (all the components are brand new)
Mobo: Asus A8N-SLI
CPU: AMD x2 3800+
RAM: CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200)
HDD: SAMSUNG SpinPoint P Series SP2504C 250GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
Optical drive: ASUS 16X DVD±R DVD Burner With 5X DVD-RAM Write Black E-IDE/ATAPI
PSU: FSP Group (Fortron Source) FX600-GLN ATX12V/ EPS12V 600W All-In-One Power Supply

Would it help if I reconnect my optical drive to primary IDE instead of secondary IDE ?

Thanks a lot

Did you reset the BIOS via the jumper before starting your machine for the first time?
Read your motherboard manual for instructions if you do not know how to do this, it is a very simple procedure involving moving one of the jumpers on the motherboard for just a few seconds.

I tried to reset my jumper 2 or 3 times but it didn't work. What else can I do to solve the problem?

Connect the keyboard. Use only ONE video card if you have 2 and are trying to run SLI.

I tried the out of the case test. I got a display with the same message "CMOS checksum error". When I press Del, I still got the same blank screen. The computer is still running.
What does this mean?
