First build question
Hello, quick couple questions to do with putting together a parts list for my first build....
So far looking like this: Motherboard Asus A8N5X Video Card Evga Geforce 7900gt 256 meg Ram Corsair 2GB PC3200C2PT TWINX 2048 (I know, overkill, but getting cheap from a friend of mine!) Processor Athlon 64 3700+ 1 MB cache Socket 939 Drives, Keyboard and monitor....using existing for the time being Question is this....if I use the Antec Sonata II case w/ power supply, is the 450 watt power supply up to the task?? and will the case provide sufficient cooling for the parts I've chosen (read somewhere that the 7900GT likes to run a little warm!! Thanks for your time and opinions... Al |

I'm pretty sure that the power supply will be able to power the 7900GT, as well as the other components of that computer. I'll let others decide for certain, however.
The Antec Sonata II comes with a singular 120mm rear exhaust fan, which can be set on three settings (low, medium, or high). It provides adequate cooling, and should be able to dissipate the heat generated by the 7900GT fairly easily. If you wish to increase cooling power, there are three other fan mounts (not counting the exhaust fan). One sits directly above the CPU (adjustable), and blows cool air onto the CPU HSF. Another sits directly above the Graphics card, and does the same job. (They both get the cool air from behind the case, at the bottom, an intake vent). A third fan mount sits at the front, at the bottom, and blows cool air into the case, or onto the hard drives. Keep in mind that adding more fans contributes to the total noise output. |

Kareeser pretty much covered it. The cooling and power that comes with the Sonata II should be fine for that system - make sure the PSU has a connector for a PCI-E card though.
Good luck on your new build!

That's why we recommend the Sonata II a lot here - it has a fully ATX 2.0 compliant power supply.
